Embellished Jean Jacket/Fiber Arts Camp:

Fashion is the most expressive art form, create your own wearable art statement by embellishing a jean jacket. Your instructor, Margie Boynton will guide you through the creative process using her fabulous fabrics, trims and designs collected from around the world (the world wide web that is). She has been sewing, drawing and painting for many years and will
love to teach you how to create your own unique style.

During this 5 - day workshop Margie will teach you how to use various fiber arts techniques including: painting, sewing (either by hand or by machine) and dying fabric to embellish your very own jean jacket.
We will explore cyanotype printmaking, or sun printing, a technique that uses sunlight to develop a photographic image onto fabric. These cyanotypes then can be sewn onto the denim jackets, painted or embellished with colorful embroidery stitching. Margie has a huge assortment of glittery trims and fabulous fabrics that can further enhance the flair of your
jacket. We will also experiment with block printing to create patterns on the denim jackets or on tote bags (provided).

This workshop is aimed at beginners, but all levels are welcome and all sewing equipment will be provided. Please bring your own denim jacket, although some will be available for purchase.

In this workshop we will cover:
•How to transfer an image onto fabric and use fabric paints
•Basic embroidery stitches
•How to sew using a sewing machine and hand stitching
•Cyanotype “sunprinting” on fabric
•How to create a warm lining for your jacket
•Block printing.
