*Memorial Day class will take place on Wednesday 5/30 instead of Monday 5/28*

The Art of the Sketchbook

In this class, students will integrate the practice of sketchbooking into their routine in order to document creative thoughts and maximize their artistic endeavors. Keeping a sketchbook helps an artist to capture inspiration, work through ideas, and strengthen their drawing skills no matter their experience level.

Throughout this 8-week course, we will:

  • Learn how to construct & personalize our own sketchbooks using various art papers

  • Experiment with drawing, printmaking, and watercolor techniques

  • Explore creative writing & hand-lettering

  • Practice observational drawing of

    • people actively engaged in their surroundings

    • Daily artifacts

    • Architecture and nature

  • Use the sketchbook to gather source material for other creative projects

  • Connect with a global sketch community

Instructor Lindsay Bolin Lowery considers drawing in her sketchbook essential to her creative process, and tries to have one in her possession at all times.  From her sketchbook work, she produces illustrations and handmade housewares for her small business LBo Craft. She is currently participating in the Sketchbook Project and is super pumped to be teaching at ArtFarm!
